Jonathan has been at the helm of the Bonhams Global Watch Department for the past five years. During his tenure, the department has enjoyed much success, with record-breaking auctions and the sale of one of the world’s largest private single-owner collections of watches, with the 2,000-strong Collection of a European Nobleman.

Jonathan is one of the few international auctioneers who is also an accomplished watchmaker. His love of watches was sparked by a chance meeting with George Daniels, who introduced him to the Clockmakers Company. Jonathan secured the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust for Watchmaking in Switzerland and enrolled on the Watchmakers of Switzerland Training Education Programme in Neuchatel, before starting his career with Watches of Switzerland.

Prior to Bonhams, Jonathan was a Senior Worldwide Specialist with Sotheby’s for 12 years. During this time, he was involved in the sale of many classic and historically significant pieces such as the Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication watch and assisted in numerous record-breaking sales, including the Time Museum Sale.

Jonathan has also served as Managing Director of a boutique luxury watchmaker in La Chaux de Fonds, the centre of Switzerland’s watch-making region, and has acted as a watch consultant to various fine watch manufacturers.
