What You Can Expect at HF.10

For its 10th instalment, Dubai Watch Week’s Horology Forum hits Hong Kong. Hong Kong is renowned for its love of watches. For the travelling version of the Forum’s first foray into Asia, Hong Kong was a natural fit. “We are delighted to host the 10th edition of the Horology Forum for the first time in Hong Kong, marking a significant step in expanding our international presence into the hub of the luxury watch industry within Asia. Hosting this insightful event with a new, discerning audience allows us to connect with like-minded individuals in the local community and collectively explore the worlds of luxury and horology. Doing so enables us to continue evolving the Horology Forum and Dubai Watch Week platform while preserving its unique DNA,” says Hind Seddiqi, Director General of Dubai Watch Week.

The event will be open to the public from the 22nd to the 24th of October, held at one of Hong Kong’s most stunning locations; Christie’s in The Henderson, a sleekly sinuous building designed by Zaha Hadid.

In the heart of the city, you can expect the sort of engaging and informative horological discussions, panels and interactive events that have made the Horology Forum such a global success. HF.10 will feature panels such as a discussion on the evolution of horology in East Asia, moderated by Carson Chan (founder of WatchProfessorAcademy.com), along with a discussion led by noted collector and co-founder of The Armoury, Mark Cho, on the multifaceted world of luxury ownership and booming interest in vintage treasures. The event will also introduce a new format, a relay workshop called The Watch Industry Starter Pack which will see Revolution’s Wei Koh and other industry leaders build a watch brand in 60 minutes. Tim Mosso, Global Watch Specialist and the Media Director at The 1916 Company, will lead a crash course in the history of the watch industry, going through 300 years of watchmaking history in 40 minutes. We’ve also enlisted Ming’s founder, Ming Thein, and Ressence’s Benoît Mintiens to explore what the future of practical complication could look like in the world of smart watches.

Hot topics are, of course, an integral part of the Horology Forum Program, and HF.10 will address some of the industry's biggest issues. For example, Journalist Robin Swithinbank will be joined by Nicholas Biebuyck – Heritage Director, TAG Heuer and Jiaxian Su, Founder of SJX, to argue whether or not the age of mechanical innovation is over.

Of course, it’s not all theory and discourse — HF.10 offers plenty of opportunities for guests to get hands-on. Wristcheck will present a masterclass on how to paint luminous material on watch hands, and DWW favourite Fiona Krüger will lead a session on creating creative automata. If you’re looking for a more local experience, Elaine Wong will run a class on the art of Chinese calligraphy, and there will be classes on Tea Blending and Tin Clock Making.

Horology Forum has been a leading intellectual space for 10 years, hosting renowned leaders and some of the industry’s best and brightest in Dubai and worldwide. HF.10 will bring the unique blend of knowledge, culture and camaraderie that defines Dubai Watch Week and bring it to one of the brightest cities in the world. Admission is free and open to the public via online pre-registration. Be amongst the first to register now to embark on this curated journey.
